Press Conference Media Alert For Historic Verdict Against The City Of New York
On Wednesday, April 4, 2018, LAW OFFICES OF MICHAEL S. LAMONSOFF will hold a press conference at it’s offices at 32 Old Slip, New York, NY 10005 regarding its sixteen-million-dollar verdict last Friday Against the City of New York for the repeated sexual assault of Neveah Thompson by a Board of Education teacher. Naveah and her mother will be available for comment.
On Wednesday, April 4, 2018, LAW OFFICES OF MICHAEL S. LAMONSOFF, will speak to the press regarding the vicious multiple sexual assaults upon Neveah Thompson by her teacher at P.S. 11 in Queens, New York. Ms. Thompson, who was eight years old at the time, was one of 5 students who were repeatedly sexually abused by their teacher, Simon Watts over a period of two years, from 2007-2009. As a result of these molestations, Watts was convicted of multiple accounts of sex offenses of these children, and he is currently serving a 37 year prison sentence.
The conviction and imprisonment of Watts offered some degree of justice for the victims, however, there was a piece missing. Justice was still not served. The Board of Education who hired, trained and supervised him denied any culpability. The Law Offices of Michael S. Lamonsoff brought suit against the Board and established at trial that the defendants were aware of previous sexual assault complaints against Watts by other families. Nevertheless, they failed to protect these five young girls from this known predator. The jury also found that the Board of Education acted with reckless disregard for their children entrusted to their care.
After a decade of litigation and the New York City Board of Education’s nominal efforts to settle the matter, a Queens County jury returned a verdict in favor of Naveah Thompson, now 19 years old, and awarded $16,000,000 for the horrific abuse that she endured and will continue to suffer for the rest of her life.
