The Consequences of Inadequate Safety Measures for Window Washers

Window washing may sound like easy work, but in New York City, it can be a difficult, complicated, and dangerous job. From all-glass skyscrapers to ornate brownstones, window washers scale perilous heights, often at very odd angles, just to provide us with a clear view of the city streets.

Federal and New York state laws especially protect window washers, requiring that the building owner provide them with a safe means of cleaning both interior and exterior windows.  Secure platforms and ladders, anchors to link into for fall protection, safety vests, lifelines, and harnesses are all examples of equipment that may be necessary to ensure safety when cleaning windows. Unfortunately, when necessary safety measures are faulty or insufficient, accidents can occur that are serious or even deadly.

If you or a loved one have been seriously injured in a window washing accident, the Law Offices of Michael S. Lamonsoff, PLLC, can help you seek justice and the compensation that you deserve.  With more than $500 million in verdicts and settlements for our clients, we are very familiar with the games insurance companies play after someone is hurt, and we never let them win. Your recovery is our top priority.

Who is responsible for ensuring safe conditions for window washing?

When you are working in an elevated position cleaning windows, New York Labor Law 240 makes it clear that your safety as a window washer is the responsibility of the building owner.  This means that you must be provided with adequate scaffolding and ladders which are properly secured against movement, safety lines and a safe means to work above the ground level and protect you from falls.

Your conduct or partial fault will not be taken into account if you were not provided with adequate safety protection by the building owner.

The building owner or other negligent parties are responsible to pay substantial damages, including lost wages, medical bills, reduced earning capacity and compensation for pain, suffering and disability.

I fell from some scaffolding on a jobsite in Brooklyn and injured my back, shoulder, neck, and knee. After tons of surgeries and physical therapy, I'm still never going to be the same again.

I found Michael Lamonsoff through a recommendation from a family member and he handled my case well enough for me to retire from construction entirely and start my own (much safer) business!

The level of personal care he took on my case was remarkable. I'd recommend this attorney to anyone.
