Queens Doctor Dr. Zhi Alan Cheng Indicted for Sexual Abuse, Rape, and Exploitation of Vulnerable Patients
In a shocking and alarming case, Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz announced the indictment of Dr. Zhi Alan Cheng, a former physician at NewYork-Presbyterian Queens Hospital, for multiple charges of sexual abuse, rape, and exploitation of vulnerable patients and women.
Dr. Cheng used his position of trust and authority to prey on unsuspecting victims. He is accused of sexually abusing patients in the hospital, drugging and raping women in his Queens home, and filming the horrific assaults. These predatory actions have led to over 60 charges, with survivors courageously coming forward to seek justice for the terrifying violations they endured.

Dr. Cheng was first indicted for sexually abusing three patients in the hospital and drugging and raping three women at his apartment. These charges were compounded by disturbing evidence—videos of the attacks filmed without the victims' knowledge or consent in moments when they were most vulnerable.
December 2022
Dr. Cheng faced an earlier indictment for raping a female acquaintance in his home. His license to practice medicine was suspended following his arrest, and he has been held without bail since then.
Now
Dr. Cheng faces multiple sentences of 25 years to life in prison. The charges continue to grow, as another victim recently came forward: a 48-year-old woman who visited NewYork-Presbyterian Queens Hospital in November 2021 for a gastrointestinal procedure. As she lay sedated, Dr. Cheng violated her, digitally penetrating her while she was unconscious.
A Call for Justice
“What we have heard from the victims and seen in the videos is the shocking and horrifying exploitation of women at their most vulnerable,” said District Attorney Katz. “Taken together, the evidence details the repeated attacks of a sexual predator, who time and again betrayed his sworn professional oath and the trust of women who were unable to defend themselves.”
This case, led by Senior Assistant District Attorney Brianne Richards and Assistant District Attorney Matthew Regan of the Special Victims Bureau, unfolds as more survivors step forward. The dedication of the prosecution team under the leadership of Joyce Smith, Executive Assistant District Attorney for the Special Prosecutions Division, ensures that justice will be pursued relentlessly.
